News of Winter Testing
28 October 2006 - Silverstone
Driver: Paul Heavey
, Car: Chassis DH0706
Paul Heavey took his Elf Formula 5 across the water to the home of the British Grand Prix for the first of 3 pre-Christmas tests. Even though the day began wet the track had dried up by mid-afternoon which gave Heavey the opportunity to get some serious work done.
He began the day on wets which gave him a chance to get a feel for the track, one he had not driven since his time in karts, which was some time ago. Once he had got his bearings, the track began to dry and a switch to slicks meant he could work on set up while checking for any of the reliability issues which had plagued the team during the year. A change in chain manufacturer saw the number 56 car complete no less than 60 trouble free laps of the North Hamptonshire track and allowed the team boss to gather a great amount of data for the coming season.
“It was good to get away on my own and just spend a day with the car. The super quick corners magnify any slight handling issues we had and I can take these back home and work on them for the New Year. Above all, I’m delighted to see we had no chain related problems today, something which had worried me since the end of the season.” said Heavey of the test.
A further 2 tests were planned before Christmas, reports of which are posted elsewhere on the site.
