Preview- Irish Vee / UK Vee

Brands Hatch

The Leastone team make their long overdue return to the UK Formula Vee championship at the Formula Vee festival at Brands Hatch later this month(July 28/29th). Once the dominant force in the UK scene, Leastone lost touch as the team focused hard on the Formula 5 project over the past few years.

The team is relishing the chance to go head to head with their UK counterparts and hopefully put Leastone back on the UK map. “With so many new cars released over there in the past few years, I think we’ve been forgotten about. We are one of the most successful constructors in the series with 4 championships and countless numbers of wins so hopefully we can remind them of that.” Said team boss Paul Heavey. .

David Heavey will take the wheel of a UK spec Formula Vee as he returns to English championship for the first time since 2003. While looking forward to the event, he is under no illusions: “The level of competition over there is pretty high so it will be tough but once I get some good running on Friday, I don’t see why we can’t be quick. I’ve some knowledge of Brands and I’m looking forward to getting a proper run in the JH004, my only concern at the minute is that I’ve had such a lack of track time in the last two years.”.

The UK JH004 will run in the Dunlop livery identical to Ken Elliott’s, who also makes the trip to Brands Hatch. He will be looking to reignite his championship campaign with a brace of good results after a strong podium charge during the last round at Mondello. “Brands poses a good chance for a win. We showed some good form in the last round and with the knowledge I have of the circuit, I should have a slight advantage.” said Elliott. .

The team begins the long trip to the Kent based track in the middle of next week in preparation for testing on Friday, Championship rounds on Saturday and the popular Formula Vee festival on Sunday.
